The technology is getting advance at a very fast pace and like any other industry of the world, the auto industry is also getting some really exciting changes in the technologies used in vehicles. GM has recently announced that drivers of most of the 2011 vehicles will be able to use Smartphone for handling some main functions of their cars.

Some of the functions that can now be controlled with the Smartphone include: remote starting, activating the horn and lights and remote locking and unlocking of the doors. The brands that are working to bring these mobile applications for the users includes: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC.

Another exciting thing that GM showed up today is that the OnStar subscribers will be able to get the diagnostic information on their phones and that information may include: fuel tank level, remaining oil life, recommended tire pressure and average mile per gallon driven.

This announcement has also been made that some agreements have been done with Google and according to them; the drivers will be able to set the destination using Google Maps and then send them to OnStar’s turn-by-turn navigation system.

If this technology really comes under the controls of drivers then it would be a fantastic success for GM and the technological advancement will surely touch the new heights of success.

Hummer is one of those brands by GM which has always seen the atmosphere not so flourishing for its development and many times when this brand was just at the end of its career, some hope for the new life of this brand arouse but unfortunately the curtain has started falling on it and it has proved to be the rough and tough brand of trucks and SUVs.

Previously the Hummer brand was expected to be owned by the Chinese company but that deal fell apart in February. The bad times for the Hummer brand were started when the gasoline prices were increased several years ago and then at that time people started shifting towards small crossovers.

According to GM the Louisiana factory will close no later than 2012 but the site is still developing Chevrolet Colorados and GMC Canyons. The Hummer brand by GM was not always under so bad conditions as some of the members of this brand at the start of their career in the market achieved quite good response from the customers but this brand later got unsuccessful due to lack of fresh and latest products and now it is going to get completely vanished from the world.

Getting the perfect fuel efficiency is one of the major concerns of most of the auto makers of the world and GM is one among them. The company has recently announced that they are going to invest $850 million on the up gradation of its V8 engine and the basic aim behind it is to make the next generation engine more fuel efficient. A very different and new direct injection system is brought for the new V8 engine and this will be accompanied by a new combustion system. These plans might be placed by GM in order to meet the government’s standards for fuel efficiency.
It has been reported that the new engine will be going to have aluminum blocks that will be about 100 times lighter than the conventional cast-iron engines. Michael Robinet, vice president at research firm CSM Worldwide in Northville said that “There is no doubt that a major differentiator going forward will be powertrain technology” and further “Heavy investment and improved fuel economy will be on every company’s agenda”. The ne wV-8 engine will be coming very soon and the next generation of GM models will surely come up to the expectations of fuel efficiency standards.

It has been reported today that GM has today completed its sale for the Saab brand which it had started some months ago to the Spyker, as you might know that Saab is Swedish brand which was quiet controversial for the company and finally this news came that sale has been given to Spyker and today GM proudly announces that the sale has ended. The transaction that took place between both these companies combines Saab automobile and its 3,400 with Spyker’s cars and its 110-plus workers.

It has been decided at the time of deal that further all decision regarding Saab will be taken by Spyker and according to Spyker’s CEO Muller “Saab’s future is now secure” and he further discussed that “We will be concentrating all of our efforts into reviving Saab and transforming it into a sustainable and profitable company with the confidence to be bold”.

General Motors which we have seen that is working really hard to bring the company back to its position in the international markets and this is a reason they are bringing some hottest and latest technologies into their automobiles. It has been reported that the OnStar telematics unit of GM has developed a downloadable application for Chevrolet Volt and it will let the driver to use a Blackberry Storm, Apple iPhone or Motorola Droid to remotely control and thus monitor some vehicle functions like charging.

The is really very hot in news these days because GM and the dealers of international markets have quite great expectations from this car and this is the reason GM is presenting something new and good in this car. Apart from just charging the driver of volt will also get some extra facility to perform other functions like getting status reports like how much electronic driving range is available and warming up or cooling the vehicle before getting in. Some other features which are expected to come for this car is electronic locking and unlocking of car, turning on the horn and lights to help drivers locate their vehicles. This will be thus very new and exciting features ever seen on the cars and it will definitely increase the market demand for Volt as well.

As announced earlier this week that GM is going to change all the management setup and will build up a total new one. The main reason behind all these decisions is that GM has faced very bad times in its sale this year and now they have changed the management so that the new management comes with some new and better ideas that will lead GM to its previous position in the international market.

Susan Docherty who has just got the keys of management of GM is expected to be put in charge of marketing the four brands in US which were previously left behind and these brands are Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac. Now it’s up to her how well she market these products and what impact will it give to Gm’s reputation?

Another new post in GM is of Bob Lutz who was previously the product chief of GM and was expected to get retire this year, but now he has changed his mind and become the vice chairman in charge of marketing and also an advisor to GM chairman Ed Whitacre. Whatever the changes made in the management all the world is just concerned about the new position of GM in the international market. Now there is just a single question; will this management brings GM back to the top of market? The awaited answer will soon be in front of all of us when the new management will make new decisions.
