Toyota motor corp. had announced a recall of the Lexus LS 460 and LS 600h L and other models that are equipped with Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) to address a temporary steering wheel off-center condition that may develop under a specific driving maneuver in the previous week, just after the recall the company has announced that it is pausing the sale of 2009-2010 high end Lexus LS460 and Lexus LS 600h sedans.
This announcement has been made this Monday while the recall was finalized on Friday and according to the company’s estimate it has recalled 11,500 of all vehicles and among them 4,000 models were those from US. The stop of sales due to the safety concerns is not a very common thing in the auto industry but Toyota should be called as the beginners of this trend as they have also announced such actions for eight of its best selling brands.
The company has claimed that they have received one customer’s complaint in US and 12 in Japan but still no report of accident because of this problem has been seen. While discussing on this issue company spokesman Brian Lyons said “The owners of the affected LS sedans will be the first to receive the remedy for the steering problems — they’ll be the priority,” and further “After that we’ll fix any LS models that need to be repaired that are sitting on the dealer lots:. The Lexus’s steering problems have been first time found out by the company but it can affect the brand’s reputation so Toyota’s should fix the problems as soon as possible.
